The North-West Backgammon League was the third UK-based Backgammon League, following on from Bristol and London. It is loosely based around the "M62 corridor" of Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester. The intention is to provide an additional opportunity for people of all levels to play backgammon alongside the well-established clubs and events in the North West region. There are now many local clubs and leagues around the UK: see the links page for more details.
The league was formed in 2014 and is still run by Kev Jones, John Wright, Mark Calderbank and Arthur Wright as a committee.
Between 2016 and 2019 the league sent a team to the annual UKBGF Clubs Championship, finishing as runners up in 2016 and winners in 2018.
Team selection is based on selection criteria shown on the 'Format & Rules' page.
The league also has representatives in Richard Biddle's annual UK Champions League tournament. Lee Gorton was the runner up in 2017 and Kev Jones won the event in 2018. Again selection criteria is shown on the 'Format & Rules' page.
New players are very welcome to join us. All we ask is that you are prepared to travel to play some of your matches and that you commit to staying for at least one six-month season.
