How does it work?
o Divisions are made up of an approximately equal number of players depending on entries
o Each player plays an 11 point match against all other players in their division
o Players schedule their own matches, on average roughly 1 match per month
o Seasons will run January 1st to June 30th and July 1st to December 31st
o Two points for a win, one point for a loss
o Seasons will be based on a promotion/relegation system (generally two-up/two-down)
o £20 entry fee (70% to division champions, 30% to runners up)
How to join
o £20 entry fee, email address, phone number to be given to local committee member
League positions are determined by the following criteria:
1. Match points (2 for a win, 1 for a loss)
2. Head to head result between tied players.
3. When 3 or more players are tied a "mini-league" containing results between tied players is formed to determine their league positions. H2H may then be used again as a tie-break within the "mini-league"
4. Points difference (points scored − points conceded)
5. Play off only if promotion, relegation, or prize money is at stake. An 11 point match shall be played.
Rules
o Players must be based in the North West and be prepared to play in either Leeds, Liverpool, or Manchester
o Preference is for players to play “live”. On‐line play is by exception and only if both players agree
o No entry fee = no tournament
o Both players to report match result via email
o Clocks: standard clocks must be used if either player requests. Clock apps (tablet/mobile) only when both players agree.
o Players may, by prior agreement, "double up" the result of an 11-point match in another competition as a league result.
o Anybody dropping out of the league without good reason will forfeit their entry fee and will not be allowed back into next season's tournament
o Players who fail to fulfil more than half of their matches have all their results expunged for that season (forfeit entry fee, no entry next season)
o The committee will arbitrate when players who fulfil more than half of their matches still have outstanding games at the end of the season
o Tournament will use UKBGF rules
o Results of matches are included in the UKBGF ranking system
o If any additional rulings are required then these will be handled by the committee
Rules for on‐line matches – Seasons 12 & 13
o Both players must agree to play on‐line
o Play on Backgammon Studio Heroes (default) or Backgammon Galaxy
o If using Heroes, you can use the UKBGF External Tournament room:
UKBGF - League and Cup (which uses the correct timing settings 16:30 mins for 11pt match and 10 secs per move)
o If using Galaxy, use Normal time settings (11 mins a match + 10 secs per move)
Selection criteria for other tournaments
o UKBGF Club Championship – team selection is based on the league tables at the end of the last full season with promoted players taking the places of relegated players. Team places will be offered in league table order until team selection is complete.
o UK Champions League – team selection is based on the league tables at the end of the calendar year before allocating promotion and relegation places. Champions League places will be offered in league table order until our allocation is complete.
